When we moved to the US we were on our own, we had to change and adapt as a couple and a family, we had to get used to a completely different way of living, a way of living we weren’t necessarily ready for.

Then when we left the United States to come back to the UAE we had changed so much, we had gotten used to a certain way of life and a certain way of living. Moving back home we were going to have to do it all over again.

Were we worried coming back to a place we always knew? In a funny way yes, we didn’t know how well we were going to adapt. What kept us from stressing too much about the situation is we knew that we had each other as a source of support. No matter how much the world around us changed there would be something that stood there, a familiar face, a familiar voice, a familiar touch, and that was what we had in each other.

We now have a sense of confidence in who we are no matter where we are, we are not afraid of adventure, we are not afraid to explore the world, we are not afraid to call anywhere home, because today, right now, home is wherever we and our children are together.

Home is no longer a place to us, it’s a feeling we have whenever we are around each other, it’s a feeling of love, it’s feeling of security, it’s a feeling of knowing that everything is going to be alright no matter where we are or what we’re going through.

At this stage in our lives our home could be a one bedroom hut on the coast of South America, a penthouse in New York or a villa in the UAE because by bringing our lives together we created a world that surrounds us wherever we go, that world is our home now. That world might not always look familiar but it is always filled with love, and I thank Allah everyday that I found someone to build that home with.
